Do you like to write? Do you have at least one passion that could be shared to benefit others? Have you ever considered blogging for a living? If your answer is yes to any of these questions, then blogging for a living is for you.
There are many different reasons why people decide to start a blog. Some individuals blog as a hobby — I started the English Language Teaching and Learning Blog as a seasoned English Language Teacher with two decades of experience teaching the English language abroad as well as being a former English language School and TESOL Teacher Training College owner wanting to support new teachers and eager English language learners. Many highly successful individuals blog as a way to make a very lucrative income.
There are no right or wrong answers as to why you should start a blog. Here are five ( 5 ) common reasons you may want to think about taking action toward starting a blog.
- To Have Fun and Provide Enjoyment to Others
I have had a passion for learning since I can remember. I also love to write. Blogging was a no-brainer for me, to share the knowledge I had accumulated over my lifetime and to support as many people as was possible who are seeking answers. I’ve been writing for several decades and I couldn’t imagine not writing or blogging.
I also like reading posts on other people’s blogs, learning new ideas and processes, meeting new and interesting people, and sharing what I find. Blogging is a fun activity and can be a very lucrative business to have, regardless of the subject that you are writing about.
- To Blog for Others’ Benefit – In Service to Others
No matter what type of blog you plan to launch, the aim should always be to provide value, support and help others. If someone can benefit from what you write, then you have made this world a better place for yourself, and for your readers. Someone may be motivated by your blog posts, they may learn something new, or they may find enjoyment. Better yet, they may take what you have offered and pass it on spreading the positivity further than you had initially planned or hoped for, something called Butterfly Effect.
As for myself, I have learned a lot about writing and blogging along the way (and I’m still learning every single day ) — things about my audience, what they are keen to hear more about, strategies to of making my blog interesting for my readers, how I can appropriately earn a comfortable income from my writing, sharing, supporting others, and most of this I learn from other passionate bloggers who have been extremely willing to share their insights with me. It’s a great inclusive, like-minded blogging community.

- For Personal Development and To Grow
A blog not only helps others, but it certainly does help the blogger to grow in so many different ways. As you learn and grow, by default you will become even more knowledgeable and passionate in the topics that you research and love. It just gets better as time passes. You never seem to become the master of it all, as there is always new things to learn.
- To Build a Business and Create Freedom
I asked at the beginning of this article, “Have you ever considered blogging for a living?” Well, of course, the answer should be yes. Why should you not be paid for doing something your love to do? Blogging can be a great way to improve the business you already have, or to create a business all on its own. If your passion is writing, sharing, and helping others, then why not make a living from doing it? I know several successful bloggers in very different subjects and they all say the same thing, that blogging is the best thing that has ever happened to them. I do agree!
I started as a hobby blogger and now I run a successful blog that earns me a very comfortable income, and I forecast this income to continue to grow well into the future. My blog allowed me to leave the day job I felt tied to and disliked to pursue something that I was passionate about and loved. I now travel abroad at will, make a great living, have a flexible schedule, have more time to spend with loved ones, and will be able to have the freedom that most are unable to achieve.
